The actor and comedian Nick Cannon has thanked his fans and friends for their “outpouring of love” following the death of his 9-month-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan.

Cannon posted a tribute on Instagram on Sunday with a photo of his little boys taken on his lap. “I never imagined that two beautiful souls could go out so soon.”

The twins died on Sunday after a short battle with pneumonia, said a statement from the family. They had been admitted to the hospital during a visit to Cannon in December.

Cannon, 39, stars in the TV series Wild ’N Out, a wildly popular sketch comedy. He met Carey in 2001 and they got married in 2008. The couple split in 2011 and divorced in 2014.

Cannon, Carey and their children are expected to stay in New York after the twins’ deaths. Cannon has not yet been involved in another relationship.
